NOVA SCOTIA STILL LIFE

One of my favourite things to do is explore antique stores. Both Pam and I are always looking for things that inspire our art. Over the years I have collected various backgrounds including several barn doors, windows, and a collection of vintage hand made boats. I believe some of these pieces are unique to Nova Scotia and our folk art culture.

I am always saying to myself "someday I want to do some painting with light projects just for me". With the current situation I decided to dig into the prop closet and living room shelves and this is what I came up with. I am using three lights to give the effect of an evening light pouring through the window of an old boat house. To paint in the foreground elements, including this model boat that Pam picked up for me at an antique store just off the Lahave Ferry on one of our road trip adventures, I used a vintage flashlight with a grid attachment.

I feel lucky that I have everything in my home/office/studio to be able to let my imagination transcend to another place when remaining home.

Stay safe my friends!
